The Byzantine cross, covered with thick pieces of gold, pearls and precious stones, is said to have been a gift to the cathedral, given in 1205 by a crusader freshly returned from the sacking of Constantinople the previous year. It bears a crystal through which one can see a tiny fragment of what is said to be the cross on which Christ was crucified. The main side bears 48 precious stones including emeralds, amethysts and sapphires while the reverse side has 32 stones. (http://medievalnews.blogspot.com ... from-cathedral.html)

图尔奈钟楼
The belfry (French: beffroi) of Tournai, Belgium, is a freestanding bell tower of medieval origin, 72 meters in height with a 256-step stair. This landmark building is one of a set of belfries of Belgium and France registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Construction of the belfry began around 1188 when King Philip Augustus of France granted Tournai its town charter, conferring among other privileges the right to mount a communal bell to ring out signals to the townsfolk. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belfry_of_Tournai)作者: 尧玉邮屋 时间: 2009-9-28 16:17
